Jonathan Pike was born in 1949. He studied at the Central School of Art, London and Falmouth School of Art from 1967 to 1971. He was awarded the Royal Academy David Murray Scholarship in 1970.
Jonathan's interest in architectural subjects and the urban landscape began when he first moved to London in 1972. He made his first visit to Venice in 1975 and has made many subsequent trips there, most recently in January of this year. In recent years, apart from his regular visits to Italy, he has travelled to paint in Sri Lanka, USA, Portugal, Spain, Borneo, France, Holland, Belgium and several times to Cuba. Many individuals and organisations have commissioned his work including: The Cloth workers Guild in the City of London and Oxford University Press. Jonathan lives and works in London.
In 2009 Jonathan won the Royal Society/Sunday Times Watercolour Competition. This prize is equivalent to the Booker prize for literature.
