George Birrell trained at the Glasgow School of Art and started painting full time in 1998 after a career as a lecturer and teacher in art and design. He is a frequent contributor to The Scotttish Societies including the Royal Academy. He is interested in the architecture of the East Coast towns and the fishing villages of Scotland. Vigorous handling and strong design are a hallmark of his painting.
