David John Crockett was born in 1941 and studied at the Birmingham College of Art and Design. Of his work David says: 'I have total respect for the industry and vigour of Constable and David Cox and follow their practice of working out in the fields with a sketchbook, then bringing home the 'snatches' to work up the studies to a satisfactory conclusion aided by French tobacco and black coffee. I am devoted to the gentlemen of the English Watercolour School and simply want to gain a small place in their company. I constantly pursue working with the muted palette, seeking largesse and brevity of diction, always mindful of the colour of Parkes-Bonington. I do not experiment with the medium, the frontiers are established technically, but not the vision, there is still room for a 'natural painter'.'
