Sasha Harding B.A. Hons

Title: Three Boats
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Size: 36 x 36 inches

Sasha Harding was born in Bath but raised by the sea on the south coast of Dorset.

She studied at Shelley Park for her Diploma and then Cornwall for a Fine Art Degree. She lived in Truro for five years and then moved to the north coast to continue to paint and find inspiration.

Influences include the Scottish colourists - coming from a link with her Great Aunt 'Jeka Kemp' (who was painting in Glasgow at the same time as the colourists), and who had a painting bought by Alexander Reid, a well known art dealer of the time whose portrait was painted by Van Gogh. Closer to home her particular favourites are the Newlyn artists and Stanhope Forbes and Elizabeth Forbes.

Sasha works with a limited palette of three colours and white, this simplifies and unifies the paintings. Less of a colourist she is interested in composition and narrative, and almost always uses figures to create atmosphere.

Cornwall is a stimulating place to live and work and she is constantly drawing from her surroundings and using the atmosphere as an inspiration for her work.
