David McClure was born in 1926, he studied at Glasgow University and the Edinburgh College of Art. He retired from teaching to paint full time in 1985. He was made a member of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1971 and elected to the Royal Glasgow Institute in 1990. His work is close to that of the Post Impressionist masters Matisse and Gauguin who must have had their influence. He is represented in many public and private collections including the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
