John Yardley was born in Beverley, Yorkshire in 1933 and has been drawing for as long as he can remember; whilst he was never actively encouraged at home, both his parents dabbled in art. John had a career in banking but finally escaped to take up painting on a full-time basis in 1986. John is a great admirer of the work of John Singer Sargent and W.R. Sickert. He is a painter in both oils and watercolour and is a regular exhibitor with the R.W.S. and R.I. being made a full member of the latter in 1990. John has written books, regularly teaches on painting courses and videos have been produced.
