Louise BalaamBased in Kent, Louise Balaam paints semi-abstract landscapes which relate to the English landscape tradition. Constables oil sketches are an important influence as are Twentieth century artists such as Ivon Hitchens and Winifred Nicholson. "My work is concerned with an emotional response to the natural world, particularly the relationship between light and dark. I like the sensuality and depth of colour of oil, used in gestural and direct brushstrokes, which assert the materiality of paint and the painted surface."
