Paul Murray

Paul Murray graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1984 and has been painting, teaching and travelling ever since. He has exhibited at the Royal Glasgow Institute, the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours in Edinburgh, and the Paisley Art Institute. He was honoured with The Paisley Art Institute Award in 2000 and the Mary Armour Award at the PAI in 2002.

Paul has had solo shows in Marbella, Bahrain and Gourock which have resulted in his work now being part of private collections of the Bahrain Royal Family.

The pictures are mostly inspired by local scenes from the Western Ferries and the Kip Marina to the hills and landscapes around the artistas Gourock home. However, inspiration has also been drawn from Paulas travels in Europe and the Middle East.

'His paintings attempt to encourage the spectatoras eye to journey back through the picture, to look beyond the decorative and to appreciate the subtle changes of surface and mark. Collage is crucial in the work; pre-printed images, calligraphy and textures, left as a trace of the observed subject.'
